P(l)ay Dirt

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.
--Margaret Atwood

I spent the afternoon playing in the dirt--shoveling and raking the far end of our yard, a place not visible from our back doors, where weeds and muck clearly dominated. There was nothing complicated in the work; it was physical labor that allowed my mind to wander as I cut down weeds and leveled the ground. In many ways, I was clearing out my mind as I cleaning up the land. My back hurts tonight, but my mind feels refreshed.

The Robin arrived as I was putting away my tools--quite pleased with the tilled soil filled with worms, caterpillars and other tasty bugs.
