Saturday 28 April 2012: "Lilac Wine"

Parking in the village car park for an art exhibition this afternoon, I spotted this beautiful lilac among the vegetation. Dear Blipper, in the pouring rain I thought of you and couldn't say no. Wet through, shoes sopping from the long grass, here it is, wine coloured lilac.

I lost myself on a cool damp night
Gave myself in that misty light
Was hypnotised by a strange delight
Under the lilac tree.
I made wine from the lilac tree
Put my heart in its recipe
It makes me see what I want to see
Be what I want to be ....

"Lilac Wine" written by James Shelton in 1950 and used in a little known musical, Dance me a Song. Numerous cover versions have been made, including my favourite Elkie Brooks and most recently Katie Melhua.
