The elephant bug

I have been poring over insect sites on t'internet and the best I can come up with is that this is not an elephant bug but rather a type Lauxaniidae fly. Any help on identification will be greatly appreciated. It had a rather long proboscis thingy which seemed to be poking around in these tiny flower buds that I blipped after the rain last week. It seems covered in pollen but I am not sure whether it was actually feeding on the pollen. It has fantastic stripy eyes and this image doesn't really show the best of the eyes or the proboscis thingy but it has a rather nice background so that you can see the horn so here you are.

Well, that's Monday nearly over.
