Monday 30 April 2012: After dinner

Tom and I attended a signing class on Saturday, the first of a course of 12. It was with significant reluctance on his part - Tom is not a keen signer. He doesn't really see the point because his implants mean he can hear. It may also be tied in with a growing awareness of his difference - something he's beginning to express.

We're keen for him, and us, to be able to communicate with his deaf peers. To not close any doors. But it is up to him in the end.

He is, of course, pretty good at it and demonstrated his command of the signed alphabet after dinner putting me and Nik to shame. Our homework is to sign our full name which is no small challenge...
