RACH: 'Water Feature'

This sculpture by Syd Burnett stands in the open air close to the main entrance of the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital, part of the first phase of an ambitious programme of art works commissioned when the building was designed and constructed in the early years of the new millennium.

To quote the Web page describing this particular work: "Powered by water, the sculpture has one left-handed and two right-handed spirals. As they turn they appear to be winding upwards and downwards forming constantly changing patterns."

Syd himself is quoted there as saying he "wanted to create a water feature which would not only appeal to children coming to the hospital but also staff and visiting relatives who might find it a calming distraction at a time of anxiety".

Sadly, for what are believed to be Health & Safety reasons, the water has not flowed, and the spirals have not turned, for some considerable time.
