HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WORKER'S DAY!

Happy May Day!! My friend J is a great representative for International Worker's Day! J takes pride in her work...she enjoys the kids and takes seriously the safety aspects of her job. Parents are assured their kids are in good hands on her route.

Today we take time to honor and celebrate all working peoples in the world and to continue the fight for justice on the working front. To continue the struggle for fair wages, healthy and safe working conditions, and equal treatment and respect for each individual worker.

Seattle participated this day with marches that were largely peaceful. There were a very few who --like six in one case- who were not part of the occupy movement but who moved in quickly to smash windows of some businesses. These violent actions distracted from the main emphasis of justice on the work front and instilled fear in people who may otherwise have been sympathetic to the cause. In many cases those whose property was harmed were other workers too. Even back in the anti war protests that I participated in, I always felt non violence held a higher moral ground to perpetuate a cause. And, unfortunately, the media hones in on the violence instead of the overwhelming peaceful protesting going on. As the song goes. "when will we ever learn."

So today I post a positive image of the day...a worker who takes pride in her job and is a proud union member in "good standing".!!! And tomorrow is also her birthday so here's to you J !!!
