Wednesday 2 May 2012: the jewel of autumn
Also known as the 'seeded apple' there are lots in the greengrocers at the moment.
My little tree blooms madly but hasn't set any fruit yet while a neighbour's blossoms and fruits and this is one of hers.
What to do with it though...apart from marvel at the colour of the arils (what I always thought of as pips) and use the juice as the only colour in a pen and ink drawing of the fruits. The juice is sweet and lovely and the 'pips' basically inedible!
However have discovered some recipes including 'Sticky Red Wings' with cranberry and pomegranate marinade, Roast Goose with pomegranate glaze and pomegranate poached pears with pom gelato for pud.
Very red but potentially very tasty.
