The Edge of the Wold

A peep through the curtains

The birch leaf curtains parted in the breeze to reveal this couple of house sparrows. When I showed this to Wifie, she thought the male was having his wicked way. The reality is that the female solicits the attention of the male, and he obliges... again, and again and again.

This has been going on for several weeks now, and though she does spend some time in the bird box, I am not sure if all of this nuptial activity has resulted in a clutch of eggs.

Today we take possession of our half allotment, it feels like a bigger responsibility than providing a home for a tortoise. Speaking of which, Reg is in fine form, his explorations of the garden are now closely supervised. We have the radio tracking device, and it works. The next challenge is to find a way of attaching it that means it will come off easily when needed, but not when he is pushing through the undergrowth.
