Thursday 3 May 2012: Goldcrest

Another day of good local bird watching but dire photos. Given the light the camera was never on less than ISO 800 and the main sighting of the day, three Black-necked Grebes at Marston Vale Country Park were never closer than 100m. The Common Sandpiper was closer, but still grainy, so today's offering is a Goldcrest taken out of the bedroom window in the rain.

You can't really complain when the day starts off with a new bird for the year out of the bedroom window, we're up to 164 now - we'd 173 this time last year, honest though I'm not chasing a year list, mind you there's an "Apparent Atlas Pied Flycatcher" - a species new to Britain at Flamborough Head - it's tempting. A bit sun would make it more tempting.
