Riches
A call from LeftHand today, he'd been digging a couple of holes in York and had found treasure.
The bones were not very interesting, but in just two 1 metre square test-pits, they turned up some lovely pot and a bone handle with incised decoration.
The pottery is Roman, Samian ware imported to Yorkshire from France.
The handle is a piece of a sheep's right metacarpal, probably Viking.
A great city for digging in, York!
