Sunday 5 October 2008: At the Vineyard

Today we set out to the wine trail about one hour from Perth.

Charging down the rows of vines and enjoying themselves, are the grand children, Ian, Lunae and Edric Pienaar, also known as the Pienozzies in Oz.

We had lovely homemade pizza, with a glass of crisp, cold classic white. This was truly a beautiful and remarkable day.

'Hartley Estate is located in one of Perth's hidden treasures, the Chittering Valley.

The vineyard takes advantage of rich loamy soils and north facing slopes up to 200 meters above sea level.

This has resulted in excellent quality fruit which has been carried through to the full flavored wines.

The trail is a wine and food journey through rural Western Australia ... all within easy reach of Perth. It meanders through the ever-changing scenery.

It is a circuit tour where every bend in the road brings the anticipation of a new country vista.

Most of these wines can be sampled, and here you can meet the friendly people who work the small family vineyards.'
