May Day march

Well, four days after May Day proper, but you get the idea. Traditionally the march was along Princes St and ended up at a rally in the Meadows but since P St is not available they came down the Royal Mile and then turned off to head up to the Pleasance. I was heading up the hill just in time to snap them. The band made a fine noise. Oh, look, there's Bill and young David on the left!

After I'd made my contribution I went home to pick up Mr H and the tent and we headed down to a forest near Dumfries to a friend's 50th birthday do. The weather forecast predicted that it would be very cold overnight, possibly even frosty, so we took lots of layers. The bonus was that the sky would be clear for admiring the extra-large moon plus Saturn's rings etc etc. The hog roast and retro music selection were splendid, but our poor host didn't even bother to set up his telescope since the skies stayed resolutely cloudy. We retreated to the tent early and added several more layers of clothing before getting into the sleeping bags.
