Monday 7 May 2012: Little black shag with a problem

Saw this little black shag sitting drying its wings in the afternoon sun and was pleased i was able to get a good shot of it.

However when I got home and looked at it closely, I felt really sad. This bird is in serious trouble - if you look closely at its neck there is a piece of green nylon filament - presumably fishing line, wrapped around the birds neck.

It looks in reasonable condition, and one can only hope that it's not tight enough to stop the bird feeding.

Sad that someone's carelessness has caused this bird such unnecessary pain.
