Tuesday 8 May 2012: Disappointed
We had a nice day today. No special plans in advance, so I decided we should go to the botanical gardens. Although I do enjoy meeting friends at such places, it's also nice to just go on my own schedule and not have to worry about arriving at a certain time. :-)
We walked around and enjoyed all the new flowers, as well as all the animals they have there. Larkyn really wanted to see the ducks and the model trains, so we ate lunch next to the pond, where she could watch the ducks. All during lunch, she kept asking me about the trains, and I told her that as soon as we were finished, we would go see the trains. Well, when will I learn NEVER to promise a little one that they can do something when I don't know for sure it is possible? The trains had all been removed from the tracks, probably for maintenance, although they've been missing quite a lot this year. She was SOOOOO disappointed. There is one section of the trains with two buttons: one makes Thomas the Train (or Tank Engine, depending on what side of the pond you are) start his circuit, and the other makes James go. She kept going from one button to the other, pushing it, telling me it should work. I kept telling her the trains were broken, gone, sleeping, whatever, to help her understand, but she was determined that if she pushed the buttons enough, they would appear. She was quite sad. There was a little boy who was about 3, and he was doing the same thing. His dad told me they had been there for over an hour. I finally convinced her that the ducks were really hungry and that we needed to head back to the pond to feed them, as I didn't want to spend an hour there! Thankfully, there were two geese and a few ducks, as well as some really aggressive fish to feed. The ducks seemed afraid of those fish, swimming so quickly to eat the bread we would throw!
Other that this outing, I've spent much of my time (Larkyn's nap onward) editing a client job that I'm determined to finish by tomorrow (I hope). So, unfortunately, I've not had time to visit your journals or thank you for stars and hearts and subscribing . . . but I'll be by soon! Hope you're all enjoying a wonderful week.
