Wednesday 9 May 2012: coconut
Once when I was 19 and working as a receptionist of a summer hostel/student apartment, this guy asked if I would go for a pizza with him. Some engineering students had already started moving in, and this one often came to see me at the desk. I did not mind at all, he was nice and quite handsome.
I told him I have half an hour of working time left. He said no one will come here now, come on, just leave. I insisted on staying until the end of my shift, and he said he would walk downtown and I could join if I felt like. I was with a car, but I didn't see him on the way. I didn't know which of the two pizzerias of the town he had chosen so I just drove home. *)
Also, the nice and handsome had a very talkative friend, who was notably interested in me. I met them on a parking lot some time after the pizza incident. The friend was flirting his head off while the nice and handsome sulked on the background.
My summer job finished soon, and he didn't come to see me at the desk any more. I had never been in love, so I had no idea what was to win and loose in the game, so although I found the possibility of misunderstandings distressing I didn't find it worth trying to sort things out.
Later that autumn the nice and handsome started dating a girl from my year class. She was a local beauty contest winner, smart, sportive and stylish. After that I don't know what happened with them, or the talkative friend. I don't even remember their first names.
I finally managed to break the coconut this morning. There was no coconut water. The meat made a nice add for my breakfast smoothie anyway.
*) In case you are wondering, those days mobile phones weighed about three kilos and cost even more.
