Saturday 12 May 2012: Beekeeping class

I attended my first beekeeping practical class this afternoon and it was fascinating! Here is a blip of Diane (in blue) showing Beth (pink) and myself (white, behind the camera ;o)) how to check a hive. We were looking for the queen bee, but she was well hidden. However, we were reassured that the number of bees entering the hive with pollen indicated she was definitely present and all was well with the colony. The frames were dripping with honey (yum!).

The hives we visited were at Gogarbank and I had a lovely cycle along the canal to get there. Wonderful to see the sunshine after so much rain!
