Tuesday 15 May 2012: The Little Model
One thing I have avoided when photographing Larkyn is asking her to smile for the camera. I have difficulty photographing children who have always been asked to smile for the camera, because they won't stop flashing a huge, cheesy smile every time they notice the camera pointed their direction.
Well, now that Larkyn knows we think it's cute when she puts her hands up by her face, she's doing it automatically. This afternoon, right before her nap, I asked her if I could get a picture of her sitting in her rocking chair. She immediately climbed into her chair, saying, "Larkyn, picture in chair." As soon as I started clicking, the hand went up and the smile came out. She even moved around like an experienced model . . . of course, 2 years of experience in front of a camera might be part of it. :-)
After a few snaps of her, she asked to take a photo of me. The camera is too heavy for her, so I hold it, but she aims and shoots. I was quite impressed that she took a photo of me at f/1.8 with perfect focus on both of my eyes. Perhaps I should hand her the camera more often . . . :-)
I worked late into the night last night on Larkyn's future bedroom, and made a lot of progress. It had become the catch-all room for all of Larkyn's outgrown clothes, as well as the bags of clothes we have received as hand-me-downs for Larkyn. I had thought that I had found all the 2T clothes, but I was mistaken! Way in the back of the room, behind tons of clutter, I found a huge bag full of 2T clothes. I have spent half the day washing them and hanging them in her closet. Wow - here I thought I'd need to buy her some summer clothes, but she now has more clothes than she will probably ever wear, including 4 swimsuits! Goodness. Hand-me-downs have been such a blessing to us. One of my friends has exquisite taste and had 3 daughters, the youngest of which is 4, so we're getting quite the wonderful assortment from her.
Anyway, the room looks a lot better already. All the clothes are in boxes labeled by size, so the bulk of the work is done. I need to work on client jobs tonight, but I plan to get back to this project on Thursday. I'm looking forward to painting the room!
Oh, and in case you can't tell, I feel my energy returning. My dose of thyroid medication was increased recently and I'm beginning to feel like myself again! Yay!
Okay, I've gone on long enough. Sorry this is so long today.
I have also backblipped a very belated thank you to one of my favorite photographers, if you have a chance to take a look. Thank you!
