Blue shutters

Another frosty, foggy day with barely a glimmer of sun.  In this rather colourless landscape, it's nice to come across a house with traditional blue shutters.  Not everyone chooses exactly the right shade, mind you! There's a tendency towards "teal", which has too much green in it, or that intense "Aegean blue", which doesn't go down well in the softer climate of Charente Maritime.

But this shade of blue blends happily with the terracotta roof tiles and is offset by planters overflowing with dark geranium foliage.  There are still some flowers amazingly - and not a Christmas decoration in sight!
