Half hippo

There are many days when I think my dog isn't actually a retriever - he doesn't retrieve for one thing, although he is at least golden. And then there are day like today when I wonder if he's even a dog, he spends half the walk eating grass and the other half lying in water (a muddy puddle will do). Can a dog be half hippo half cow?
