Bees and cider

So what did you do today? This afternoon we looked into the bee colonies that were brought home from the oil seed rape last night.
Everyone had no queen but lots of queen cells. We carefully pulled one sealed cell off the comb and I held it in cupped hands to keep her warm. When I looked 5 minutes later the queen had hatched and she was crawling up my sleeve.
We put her into a queen cage and will make up a nuc for her tomorrow.
Meanwhile she had to come to the pub with us for a well deserved meal and a pint.
Interesting beekeeping.
