The Grand Lobby

The Queen Elizabeth is a beautiful ship. This is the centrepiece of the three deck high Grand Lobby. It's lovely!
So today was day four of our trip round the Channel.
It was much the same as yesterday. We went to see Martin Bell give another talk, played Scrabble, walked round the decks, drank cocktails before another scrummy dinner.
Last night the captain announced that we'd have to go back to Southampton tonight rather than tomorrow morning as there was "technical work" that needed to be done. It was supposed to have been done when we were in Amsterdam.
So the people who were cross about not going to Amsterdam were positively livid now!
As we were having our pre dinner cocktails the captain finally came on to say that he was sorry people were disappointed; sorry that the cruise wasn't quite meeting expectations!
As a gesture they were offering $75 onboard credit per person.
Speaking as someone who wasn't too bothered about spending four days cruising about the Channel in the lap of luxury this was a nice little bonus. It covered all I had spent, our gratuities and still left me in credit. Excellent!!
Apparently - according to the Daily Mail - people had "stormed reception" (Gone to the Pursers Office?) chanting "we want the captain!!" in protest. One woman said "there are two thousand of us on board and not one person is happy".
Speak for yourself love!!
Granted there wasn't much communication from Cunard and there was no apology until tonight for the disappointment of failing to get to Amsterdam but my family and I have had a wonderful time.
I'd happily spend a few weeks circling the Channel!!
