Off to darkest Oxfordshire today to visit my brother-in-law and family: easy drive in fantastic weather (cold and sunny), lovely food, much catching up (although probably not enough) and play from the cousins.

+2/3 and her almost equivalently aged cousin having a good old play on the piano.

A quiet evening trying to complete the great data migration. I'm rapidly growing to loathe OS X. For example: I want to copy the iPhoto library to the NAS and then point iPhoto to the new location. Should be easy, right? So far I've:

* tried to copy through the finder: the progress dialog sat there for about 12h before telling me it would take 20 days to copy and eventually just giving up
* mounted the NAS using AFP and manually copying the files from the terminal: the terminal by default is set to save unlimited lines of history which then exhausted the system memory and required a reboot. Seriously?
* rsync the data across: fortunately the NAS supports rsync. Turn it on, modify the terminal settings and run rsync. Works perfectly... but exposes the horrible internal structure of the iPhoto library. Seriously, what a mess
* turning on hidden file viewing requires some terminal work and restarting the finder. Again, seriously?!

It's nearly there however. Grrrr.

It looks like blip doesn't support HTML anymore in the description. Anyone know how to fix this?

Music for today: go on, try Killing by The Apples on for size. You'll like it.
