Thursday 17 May 2012: Ginkgo Biloba

This unique tree is in my neighbour's garden, I get to enjoy it out of my kitchen window.
Ginkgo is one of the oldest living tree species. The Ginkgo is a living fossil, with fossils recognisably related to modern Ginkgo dating back 270 million years. The extract of ginkgo leaves is used medicinally, it is one of the most popular medicinal herbs. In traditional Chinese medicine, the seeds of the ginkgo tree are used.
The whole tree turns bright yellow almost completely, and then drops its leaves rapidly over a few days. Creates the most beautiful yellow carpet underneath it.
