Friday 18 May 2012: Still trying
Or as my friends might put it, yes, very trying.
I think this does the job better. The bottom one is f2 and with the focal point on the pillar at the front, is a sharper and more dynamic picture to my eye, with the wall behind slightly blurred. The top one is f8 and seems a bit "puddingy" to my eye. Everything is more or less in focus (and the focal point is still the pillar), but there is nothing really leading the eye to a particular point.
You've no idea how hard it is trying to do this when it's pissing down with rain ceaselessly.
