Croatia Day 6: Road to Plitvice

Woke up very early (about 5?) in the morning in Hvar, went down to the Harbour and caught a catamaran to Split. Once in Split, we caught a bus up to Plitvice. I think I remember it taking about 7 hours. There was some lovely, empty countryside on the way.

We arrived in Plitvice and it was pouring down, we had no idea how to find our guesthouse and as it turned out, had missed the stop. Sitting in the bus stop by Plitvice in the pouring rain, a car pulled up. I went to ask him where our hostel was, showing him a print off. He told us to get in the car, without much explanation. We got in just to get out of the rain. On the way to the gueshouse I managed to figure out he was the owner! I don't know how he knew we were on that bus, there can't be many busses I guess.

He gave us some very strong liqueur on arrival and there were some middle aged English people also staying there who seemed very nice. The room was really cosy, very mountain lodge style.

In the evening we explored the fairly desolate town we were staying in, very close to the lakes. It was worth it though as we stumbled across what is possibly (bar a place in Florence) my favourite pizza restaurent in the world. It was amazing, located at the bottom of what looked like a ski slope with a cable car and set out like a kind of cafe. There was Croatian football on in the background and only a few locals around the tables. They served huge pizzas at a great value. We ended up going back there again it was so tasty.
