A Lull in the Weather

It is difficult to believe that in a little over three months this avenue of trees will be resplendent in pink cherry blossom.
Today the trees are being buffeted by squally sleet showers which arrive at regular intervals from a glowering gun grey sky. As if in apology, the clouds occasionally roll eastward allowing some bright sunshine to lift the spirits and illuminate the landscape.

Along with the gales and sleet have arrived the hordes of students, back from their Christmas break, filling the local streets and coffee shops and seemingly careless of the weather in their inadequate clothing.
Once upon a time, I was one of them -so long ago now that it was never cold, wet or windy, at least in my memory.
Today I'm turning on the central heating before I get hypothermia.
