A Porky Prime Cut

Listening to the Squeeze Vinyl LP today - East Side Story

I always look at the run-out of an LP to see what comments have been made.  This signature "A Porky Prime Cut" appears on many of my albums so thought I would share its origins with you..........

George Peckham is better known as "Porky", as in "A Porky Prime Cut".

George is a lacquer-cutting and mastering engineer and his illustrious career includes work on the Beatles, Genesis and Led Zeppelin catalogue, as well as helping on the engineering aspects of those artists' work.

George had previously been a group member of the Fourmost but left to join Apple Studios.  He started his career in disc cutting as a trainee disc cutter at Apple Studios in November 1968 before assuming the chief disc cutting role there a year later.

Whilst at Apple, Peckham would begin adding messages in the run-out grooves of records he mastered.  The messages, along with " A Porky Prime Cut", would become his professional signature.

" A Porky Prime Cut" appears on almost every classic Punk, Post-Punk and New-Wave record from the late 70's onward that was pressed in the UK.
