The first set of traffic lights in the village

These days even moving to the middle of nowhere does not protect you from roadworks.

Here's a set of temporary traffic lights, courtesy of Scottish Power, that has been set right in front of my house. There is a big hole dug on the pavement right next to my house and for some reason the road has to be narrowed because of the hole in the pavement.

The hole has been made on Friday evening. Then workers came for three hours on Saturday, carried buckets around for a bit, switched power off for a bit, dug another hole or two and went away. They never came back today, rush hour should be interesting tomorrow...

Now, I know roadworks are necessary and all that, but it is completely ridiculous to constantly have to get through at least one set of roadworks on a main road from the Borders to Edinburgh that thousands of commuters take every day. I don't understand why workers can't work on them at night time and over weekends to make sure they are finished quickly...
