One artichoke

It looks as though we'll harvest just one artichoke from our garden this year. The plants suffered badly in the cold weather in February and the survivors are beginning to recover, but too late to produce much. I picked this perfect little one this morning and wanted to record it properly, so following my creation of a collage yesterday I decided to make this diptych showing the artichoke as it was and then after cooking. How do you share one small artichoke between two people? I decided to cook it by slicing it thinly and frying the slices in olive oil. When they're lightly browned they're delicious simply eaten with a sprinkle of salt. Cooking them like this seems to concentrate the artichoke flavour. I first ate this dish in Figueres in Catalunya some years ago and I've copied the restaurant's method many times since.
