Traces of Past Empires

Arms of Friedrich III and Empress Viktoria

The ams of the Emperor and Empress on a fireplace in the Schloss Friedrichshof.

After the Emperor Friedrich III's death after his 99 day reign, the Kaiserin Viktoria built  the Friedrichshof as a monument to her husband and a reminder of the world they had hoped to create together.

It has Tudor echos in the architecture and a English landscape garden.  There are many pictures of the Tudors, Stuarts and Georgian monarchs, and a library full of English classics and books on politics, economics and philosophy.  There is a fine collection of renaissance works of art and tapestries.
