Signs and signals

Today we have the bitter-sweet joy of warm sunshine and blue skies. Today we had to register the death of my dear mother who passed away peacefully in her own bed with us there on Friday. We could not have wished for a kinder, gentler end to her 92 years on earth.

Our local registry office in Totnes was fully booked so we drove slightly further afield to Newton Abbot. There, who should greet us, but the lovely registrar who led our son's wedding last year. She doesn't usually work in that office but was covering for a colleague who had phoned in sick. It made the sad task much pleasanter and more personal than it might have been.

Slowly taking in how our lives have changed. Already missing her so much. Taking a day at a time ...
