Monday 21 May 2012: Female Siskin
So my day off started at work. It wasn't the best of nights but one thing I do well is cope under pressure, I don't flap or panic I just get on with it.
I did and the out come was 100 times more favourable than it could have been :o)
I eventually got in at 9am and proceeded to walk around like a zombie for a couple of hours.
We had decided as I left for work last night that today I would look at Biscuits eggs again today so I did. As soon as I picked them up I knew there would be no babies. The eggs hummed!!!! I candled to be certain but they were definitely 1 dead and 2 none starters :( I have removed them to save the slow cooking process under Biscuit and she has spent the day outside.
I also checked on Grommits. They have 7 days to go and when I last candled them one was stone cold, she had pushed it out of the nest. On candleing I could still see veins and body so decided to pop it back in just in case. I didn't give it much hope as it really was cold by comparison to the others.
So I was shocked to see all 5 eggs with movement in :oD You can make out fluffy outlines in the shell so the down is in place. I doubt I will candle again now so the next time we see that fluff it'll be walking about with mum :o)
As it was my day off (sort of) and as I'm due in an early shift tomorrow I made the decision not to have a catch up sleep. I figured if I did I'd be wide awake come midnight and then only get 3/4hours before it was time to get up again. So we grabbed a quick lunch and headed out.
As we live in the middle of no where & only have 1 car I am very concious of the fact that Wfish only gets to get out of the madhouse on my days off.
We headed to wilkinsons and bought a cheep cloche for putting out/hardening off the bizzie lizzie cuttings I took last year. Then we skipped into hbase and spotted a Pachira, having never seen one before we both loved the way the trunks entwined and it just looked so different.
So Pedro (as he is now know, they all have names dontch know lol) is now happy up stairs out of direct sun. He may end up down here where it's a little less bright, but not really decided yet.
Todays blip was going to be either the start of the 6am news on bbc or a pic of the sun coming up and view over snowdon (including roof tops) taken at 5:05 am. THEN we went out for a pootle round the garden.
I have never seen the pair of Siskins that have visited the feeder but Wfish has, so they were a joy to see. The male has a ring so she must like him lol
I appear to have rambled one - whoops!
Now I'm going to jump in my jimjams and wind down watching the world go by and grab an early night I just hope I don't dream of catheters lol
