It's Grim Up North

Upper reaches

of the Lancaster Canal.

We spent part of today exploring the now defunct, northern end of the Lancaster Canal. This byway was the path for the canal horses, allowing them to by-pass the Hindcaster tunnel whilst their long-gone barges navigated through the tunnel.

This stone bridge carries the west coast main line over the tunnel. G is touching the bridge to link back to the navvies who cut and laid the stone. A brief, but to him important, connection that he makes when he works with old buildings and visits historic structures.

The smaller bridge, beyond, carries a farm track.

Thank you all so much for your book suggestions. They have all been recorded and will keep me going for the rest of the year.

Hope you have all had a satisfactory weekend and are recharged for the week ahead.

Have published this and finally noticed its out of focus. Focus is so over rated, don't you think?
