Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A prolific little breeder!

I thought that the mushroom season was well over, but this afternoon I came across this rather splendid puffball. I'm not quite sure which species it is, but since it was 12 cm in diameter and growing on sand dunes I am opting for the mosiac puffball Handkea utriformis, until someone more knowledgable tells me different!

There must be more spores in this one puffball than there are humans on this earth!
