Salford Docks

Built by the Manchester Ship Canal Company and opened by Queen Victoria in 1894, Salford Docks made up part of Manchester Docks once the third busiest port in Britain.

During the early 90's the area was proposed for the site of the Olympic Village if Manchester was to be successful in winning the Olympic bid. The bid was unsuccessful and Manchester eventually hosted the 2002 commonwealth games.

In 2000 The Lowry arts centre opened along with The Lowry outlet centre.

This photo shows the latest development the arrival of The BBC in Salford. Development continues on The Quays with ITV and The Coronation Street set due to move on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in early 2013.
