Mittagong Maltings

Day trip to Mittagong today with Trisharooni (apologies, haven't worked out to do a link in the new format yet) to visit the Mittagong Maltings - an old brewery that is now derelict and abandoned.  It is strangely in great repair and, at the same time, not at all - the brick work is pristine, but the floors have gaping holes in them (where there is a floor at all) and some buildings have been torched and the ceilings mostly open to the sky crisscrossed with burnt fragile beams and rusty metal sheets seesawing above your head.  It's dangerous, but we had no problem.

This cramped staircase was the only stairs in decent order, and the only time  that I was quite frightened and refused to go up alone.  The whole series of buildings are fenced off and feel quite isolated and I felt that, really, anything at all could have been up there waiting for me.

We drew the line at the second floor - I don't want to think what might have been up there on the third.
