Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

Enough of #mybigmoment. :-)    My mother and her twin sister were born on Valentine’s Day  1906, so I like to think of her on this day.    In Seattle there are many old photos of these inseparable identical sisters, but here on a shelf in the cabin bedroom I have these:  A pencil drawing I found on newsprint paper by an old boyfriend (not my father) of hers who was a good painter but also first an illustrator for magazines; A small fairy picture from her childhood made out of butterfly wings; and the photo taken at the retirement home when they finally moved in together after their husbands were gone, at age 83, in 1989.   Mom is the prettiest one in the red dress. :-)   She had a collection of pitchers, mostly glass, but this one is perfect for here.   They said they came into the world together they might as well leave together.   But it took a long time to deal with a lifetime of “stuff” in two parts of the country in order to do this.  And finally they only had 5 very happy months living together.  The sister had to spend her last 6 years living by herself, the last of 4 sisters.  We always had a homemade heart shaped cake on Valentine’s Day…..I’ve brought chocolate cake and chocolate hearts…..that will have to do……

Time does pass... It's hard to believe she never saw this place in the Gulf Islands. We've been coming here since 1990.

It was a very nice day in the Gulf Islands, got out for a row….and now there is a pink glow in the sky.
