Wednesday 23 May 2012: Not Wuthering Heights
A superb walk on a scorching hot day today. I went to Haworth, West Yorkshire home of the Brontes. First, a wander around the lovely village and the dramatic graveyard, adjacent to the Parsonage where the Brontes lived.
I then walked the four miles or so, along the Bronte Way to take this Blip at Top Withins. As this plaque explains, the ruined house is not Wuthering Heights. This must be a great disappointment to Bronte fans, not least the numerous Japanese visitors. I didn't know that the Brontes were big in Japan. That perhaps stems from their obscure Sumo Wrestling period, which occurred on a book signing tour to Kyoto in the late 1840s.
Gosh, it was hot today.
