Wednesday 23 May 2012: Boatbuilder memorial
Hottest day of the year so far. Down on the Clyde Coast, it reminded me of the kind of summer day I used to go swimming in the sea as a boy.
Spotted this memorial in Fairlie to village boatbuilder John Fife, whose vessels used to compete in the America's Cup and were skippered by Sir Thomas Lipton.
The monument overlooks the Clyde and the island in the background is Great Cumbrae.
