The eXmoor Files

North Hill, Minehead

A lovely day's walk from home along the South West Coast Path up to North Hill with my brother and his girlfriend - we were so lucky with the weather (not that it looks like that in the picture, but it was rather warm, sunny and we didn't get rained on).

North Hill was acquired by Exmoor National Park in 1997.  Historically there were few woodlands on site until the late 1800s when the owners at the time began to plant blocks of conifers.  Broadleaves began to be planted in the late 1990s so that today there is a mixture of both broadleaves and conifers.  Part of the hill still has infrastructure relating to military training  during the second world war.
