Sgwarnog: In the Field

Goldeneye

I'd heard that there was a Goldeneye being seen regularly on Yeadon Tarn so when I had a chance to visit today I was looking out for it.

I'd half expected it to be a distant blob in the middle of the lake,  but it was mixing it with the Mallards and Mute Swans as toddlers threw their crusts. With the sun behind me and the bird just a few yards away an image like this was surprisingly straightforward.

Elsewhere on the tarn there were a few Great Crested Grebes in among the usual, and Skylarks and Chiffchaffs could be heard in between the jets of Leeds-Bradford Airport taking off and landing a field away.
