Surprise

It was a quick pastry and carry out coffee at the station this morning as we had to get the S-Bahn from Zoo to the Olympiastadion.  This was the one thing that Tonto had added to the Itinerary, and Gillian and I had a slight mump (!) about it thinking it would be pretty dull, wandering around a stadium.  (We were wrong - it was amazing to see this)  Gillian had booked in advance for us to join a guided tour at 11am, but turned out the tour for that day was in German!  Acht!  We decided that we would be better with a Tonto Tour rather than join the Germans!

This stadion is steeped in history as it was the setting for the 1936 Olympic Games, where Hilter was in attendance.  There is some amazing German architecture throughout the grounds with towers, large statues and stadiums spread over the ground.  We wanted to sit where Hitler had his seat but it was closed off.

Train to Potsdamer Platz where we had lunch and then it was on to a Mario Testino exhibition.  It was very good apart from the woman on the door on the lower floor, Stazi Annie, who wouldn't allow Tonto's rucksack in, although the nice guy on the floor above did.  We had a little discussion with her, but she wouldn't give.  She reminded me of Rosa Klebb in From Russian With Love!!

Coffee stop next and then back to the hotel to brush up for our meal out at White Trash.  Gillian brought her friend Mariya, a Bulgarian who she goes to the gym with along to meet us and join us for dinner.

White Trash was pretty amazing.  It specialises in burgers, and must admit it was one of the best I have had.  The decor is "quirky" old-school Americana at its best. Super-kitsch with a resident Tattoo parlour and stage where different acts of different genres perform each night.  Loved it.

Teaming down when we to go home so called a taxi to take us back to Chalottenberg.  It maybe wasn't Lewis Hamilton, but he drove like him!  Whoosh and we were back at the Sofitel at breakneck speed.

Another brilliant day.
