(Flat) Earth

IN 1492

In fourteen hundred and ninety-two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

He had three ships and left from Spain;
He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.

He sailed by night; he sailed by day;
He used the stars to find his way.

A compass also helped him know
How to find the way to go.

Ninety sailors were on board;
Some men worked while others snored.

Then the workers went to sleep;
And others watched the ocean deep.

Day after day they looked for land;
They dreamed of trees and rocks and sand.

Before Columbus people thought the Earth was flat - some still do. A rather liberal interpretation of Earth, today's MonoMonday challenge hosted this month by Notowennewitt.

Another fabulous day. I've spent it all in the garden and now we've just been down to Dooneen for a bit of a blow on the cliffs. This is what it looked like in colour. It was gorgeous. We sat on the cliff and just gazed. Totally hypnotic and sophoric. These two gulls were debating flat earth theories too.
