Seagull no more?

My neighbour showed me the feathery remains of what looks like a serious altercation between possibly a seagull and some other creature in the ditch beside the road.

Nature detectives are welcome to help us out as to what may have happened. Was it a bird of prey or a land creature - mink are not unknown in the area.
