Sgwarnog: In the Field

Horncliffe Well

When I get out onto the high moors I always pause for a while at Horncliffe Well, site of an ancient spring which has reputedly never run dry. It also marks the boundary between Hawksworth, Bingley and Burley Moors. The eagle eyed among you will spot Almscliffe Crag on the horizon, it's easy to see how these ancient landmarks link up in the landscape.

I was on my way up to the Twelve Apostles where I met up with the rest of the family who'd walked over from Whetstone Gate.

Wildlife highlights included my first Wheatear of the year alongside the usual Red Grouse, Skylarks, Meadow Pipits, Curlew and Lapwing. There was also a good smattering of Peacock butterflies throughout the moor.
