Thursday 31 May 2012: The Shakes Reduced

It takes it out of you
when the shakes are full on.

There's a brief relief
when they lessen.

Usually, the cup that defies your grip
rattles in its saucer

as you fail to raise it
to your trembling lip.

Inevitably, your knife clatters against the plate
when you attempt to slice meat.

It's a treat when the shakes reduce.
A temporary peace. A truce.

Then your struggle continues.
