Thursday 31 May 2012: Slugs and snails and puppy dogs' tails

825/365: ... that's what little girls are made of.

Here are the mistakes that led to this discovery.

1. My not feeling very well and wanting some peace and quiet.
2. My hearing the sound of pans being moved in the kitchen.
3. My not moving at the exact moment of hearing the noise.

Which all meant that a few minutes later Felix is coming in to the living room, squealing incoherently, something about snails. I get up, go to see what he's going on about, and there's Maddy. With a saucepan she's taken from the kitchen. Giggling, she lifts the lid. And out squirm the snails. Fllippin' loads of them!

Apparently she'd got them all from the ivy bush and decided that it would be a good thing to 'save them' and 'lay them on a silver dish'. Ah! The penny has dropped!!! They must have been re-enacting the Hans Cristian Anderson story 'The Happy Family' which is about some giant snails who were bred for eating but don't realise it and talk fondly of the 'silver dish' and 'going to the kitchen'!

Anyway... snails aside... guess what... I've *still* got laryngitis and am complementing it by some high class wheezing and coughing. So, no work for me today. My voice is starting to come back. It sounds less like a 'dog toy' (thank you dear husband of mine for that description) and more 'fading in and out' (thank you Felix for that description, complete with hand waving to describe it) and 'wavy' (thank you Maddy Moo!).

Moo seems to have had a good day at school. 'I even got down to spelling Israelite and pharoah!' she chirped. Felix bought home a petunia and went off to plant it. Sadly, he chose to plant it in the middle of my potatoes. Aaaargh!!!

PS Also realised the car tax was due at the end of the month... i.e. today...
PPS Then discovered we'd forgotten to do the car's MOT...
PPPS Whoops!!!
