Speckled Wood sunbathing

Another walk today along the Brecon & Monmouthshire canal via the Lakes of the Newport Angling Association ...

Came across this male Speckled Wood Butterfly enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun, on it's leafy sunbed. You can see the upper wing with it's eye spots, used to fool predators into attacking non vital areas, as seen in this Peacock butterfly, which has damage to the eyespots.
