ScanCam time

Job and I had some nice experimenting time on the Fishmarket in Groningen.
The ingredients:
* Overhead projector
* Scanner, with some parts like light removed.
* Laptop
* Patience
* Lots of carboard to keep the light away
* Sweater and coat to keep even more light out.

This was what people saw, when watching us.

The result is (or can be) a 30-140Mpixel greyscale image like this one.

I'll also upload the (a bit enhanced and cropped) originals in here. (Warning, some of them are up to 140Mpixel, which might crash some browsers)

One nice side-effect of this technique is the "time-compression". People walking in front of the "camera" will look small when walking fast or from left to right, while people walking in the other direction will look a bit bloated.
Some people in the street will look like cardboard, like this. (full-size-version)

Later, when the laptop-battery was almost empty, as were our stomages, we went into this Japanese restaurant at the Vismarkt and we could recharge and also experiment inside the restaurant :)
This photo was one of the last we took from the inside of the restaurant.
