Aerial Ballet

A little bit of rain yesterday evening has dampened down the dust a bit - but I don't think it was enough to really penetrate the soil.

We had a morning walk today - to Headley Hall. This is a small farming community - formerly owned by the University Of Leeds and now run by Askham Bryan farming college. They do a lot of crop research and you can see a lot of 'test strips' in the fields.

The track we use is very quiet and today there were lots of rabbits about - which meant the dogs were on alert! The hedges are full of burrows - so "stop 'n' sniff" was the order of the day.

This evening I spotted a little cloud of midges swirling about in the garden - with the late sun making them shine like little fireflies!

I used a wide aperture to try and freeze the motion but this has made actually getting some in focus a bit difficult. These four were about the best I got and you can see other pinpoints of light from more of the insects.
